The Confederação Brasileira de Caça Submarina (CBCS, Brazilian Spearfishing Confederation) was founded in 1990, with the support of some of the most important athletes in the country, such as two-time individual world champion Bruno Hermanny, and team world champions Ricardo “Charuto” Dias A. Ferreira and Gelson “Gandola” Costa. Considered nowadays one of the main spearfishing governing bodies of the world, CBCS was chosen to host the I World Skindiving Spearfishing Championship, the Mundial FIPSA, which will be held between April 3rd and 9th, with the participation of top spearfishers from ten countries.
Along 16 years of activities, CBCS has organized three international, and 15 national competitions, each year presenting better results and increasing the number of outstanding affiliated athletes. CBCS has also participated in 11 other international tournaments, winning three, and placing three seconds and five third places.
CBCS is also proud to be the first governing bodies in Latin America to establish environmentally-friendly competition rules. That example has been being followed by other organizations all over the world. Besides that, CBCS has always given priority to technical aspects during the selection of its teams.
Because of this international record, CBCS has earned the honor to host the FIPSA’s General Assembly, which will take place in Cabo Frio, on April the 6th, on the eve of the first Mundial FIPSA competition day.
